The Mannheimer Ensemble is a chamber orchestra comprising musicians from Italy, Spain, Poland, Greece, Germany, Bulgaria, Korea, China, Japan and Russia. It was founded in 2005 by students at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim, Germany.
The promoter of the project is Marco Santini from Ancona, Italy.
The inspiration for the orchestra arose out of the desire to create a forum for young musicians from different countries to collaborate. This joint effort provides a practical platform for cultural discussion among the participants. The ensemble organizes concerts and projects in individual members' home countries. Thus, the project promotes understanding among the musicians as well as playing a role in international cultural exchange.
The Ensemble's journey began with a series of concerts in Italy in 2005 and 2006. In the course of this series the orchestra premiered Ukrainian composer Yevgen Orkin's "Chamber Symphony No. 5 - Le Caprice," a piece written for and dedicated to the Mannheimer Ensemble. In December and January 2006/07 the Ensemble embarked on a concert tour to China and Mongolia. Concerts took place in Shenyang, Bejing, Baotou and Wuhai City. In 2007 and 2008 the orchestra performed concerts in Spain and Germany. The Ensemble's 2008 summer season included concerts in Rome, Madrid, Cartagena, and Berlin and was concluded with a month-long tour through Central Italy.
The Mannheimer Ensemble has been invited to play at several renowned festivals, including the Badia Music Festival in Bolzano, the Festivals di Cartagena and Alicante in Spain, and the concert series "Glienicker Schlosskonzerte" in Berlin.
